Sustainable innovation in plastic construction solutions
In recent years, we have had the pleasure of working with our customers on the sustainability of building and construction products. The project starts with a comprehensive analysis on the application and conditions of the product. Once these are clear to both parties, a matching plastic material is considered. This material can, for example, consist of a bio-based alternative or a material created from reusing already existing products.
Once the choice is final, the product design can be considered. The material used and the required strength of the part are leading for an appropriate wall thickness. Ribs can then be used to look at further optimization without loss of strength. The thickness of a product will ultimately determine the amount of material, but just as important the time needed to cool the product. Essential, therefore, is the use of a constant and minimum wall thickness. The longer the molding machine has to cool, the more power is required to make the product.
With composite products, it is also necessary to look at ways to repair only this part after the expiration of one part's life rather than having to replace the entire product. Granules can then be made from the obsolete part, which can be used again.
It is also important to look at consumables created throughout the production chain such as packaging or procurement parts.
